Was described to me as the Clash meets Arcade Fire meets Drive Like Jehu and I get the idea of that mix and they have the ingredients for that mix due to his voice, the big band sound, and the usual progressions, but where for some those ingredients come together beautifully… for me it just makes me feel like the mix only makes me want to listen to the other bands I’m reminded of more. They’re extremely talented musically but I almost find them too avant-garde, experimental and borderline “math rock” / “prog” at time for my tastes. Black Country, New Road feels a bit like music for other musicians to me.
